Verdurin is happy to host a presentation of writings by New York psychoanalyst and author Jamieson Webster which explore the relationship of art and psychoanalysis. The event is presented in collaboration with Everyday Analysis who publish the collection of Webster’s essays and is set against the backdrop of Anna Sebastian’s paintings which are the outcomes of psychoanalytic processes.

In her writing, Webster considers the relationship between the studio and the psychoanalyst’s couch. From the scopophilic instinct of the viewer and the artist’s anticipation of it to the pursuit of perfection and its connection to the girl-child’s curiosity about her mother’s body, she asks us to think about art and analysis as connected practices. Focusing on Carroll Dunham and Louise Bourgeois, Webster argues for an embrace of our wildest symptoms in theory and in art.

Everyday Analysis produces a series of pamphlets that deal with contemporary social and political issues. It convenes a monthly discussion group in North London. The project explores Marxist and psychoanalytic approaches to politics, culture, and economics which take a universalist perspective and refuse to align with prevailing identarian discourses.
