Julian Stallabrass is a writer, photographer, curator, and lecturer. His books include Art in the Age of Populism, Killing for Show: Photography, War and the Media in Vietnam and Iraq, Contemporary Art: A Very Short Introduction, and High Art Lite: British Art in the 1990s.
He has also written shorter essays and art criticism for many publications, including Artforum, The London Review of Books, New Left Review and Texte zur Kunste. He has taught art history at The Courtauld Institute of Art and The Ruskin School at the University of Oxford.
He curated The Spectre of the People, the main exhibition for the Thessaloniki PhotoBiennale, 2023-24, Failing Leviathan: Magnum Photographers and Civil War at the National Civil War Centre, Newark in 2015, the 2008 Brighton Photo Biennial, and Art and Money Online at Tate Britain in 2001.
He has also made online programmes about aspects of modern and contemporary art for Tariq Ali TV in the series ‘Rear Window’. His photographs have been shown internationally.
