Kevin Kautzman
Kevin Kautzman is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter, co-founder of Bad Mouth Theatre Company, and co-host of the Art of Darkness and Mouthing Of.
Originally from North Dakota, Kautzman trained at the University of Minnesota, the University of Texas at Austin, and in London’s Royal Court Theatre’s young writers’ programme. He received the Jerome and Michener fellowships, as well as a number of awards, including the Kernodle and the Southwestern Playwriting awards and the Kenyon and Sewanee’s Tennessee Williams scholarships.
Kautzman was described by Critical Rant as “a ferocious writer for the recession generation.” His Iphigenia named best playwriting by Lavender Magazine, and has been a finalist for the Yale Drama Series, the Pen Center USA, and the Princess Grace awards, as well as the Lila Acheson Wallace programme at Juilliard.
His drama Dream of Perfect Sleep was nominated for an Offie and his work for the stage has appeared in the UK and US at Broad Horizons, the Blank, the Finborough, History Theatre, the Living Theatre, King’s Head, the Playwrights’ Center, Spooky Action, Stage West, Theatre503, and Up.
His work is published by Broadway Play Publishing, Oberon, Playscripts, and Smith & Kraus and has been reviewed in outlets that include Broadway World, the Dallas Morning News, the Guardian, Maryland Theatre Guide, the Pioneer Press, and Time Out London.His play Moderation premiered at the Hive in Saint Paul, Minnesota and will receive a UK premiere at the Hope in London in March 2025.
